Nick Gibbins

Despite having a perfectly fulfilling life (ENT consultant surgeon, happy marriage, two beautiful kids, etc.), and being quite old enough now to know better, from his schooldays Nick Gibbins has been constitutionally incapable of resisting involvement in improbable—to say nothing of uncomfortable—physical challenges. Supported by an assiduous rotation of friends, and notwithstanding the eye-rolling of his wife, he has experimented with ultrarunning, long distance triathlons, weightlifting, treks and mountains.

In 2017 he undertook a year of ‘death by burpees’ (1 on Jan 1st through to 365 on Dec 31st), to raise money for prostate cancer research and to try to stave off the middle age spread. In 2021 he completed 11,900 burpees for Movember, to represent the number of men in the UK who die of prostate cancer every year. After trying and failing to break to world record for most burpees in an hour, he called up his mates Rich and Greg, found three very fit ladies who didn’t really know what they were taking on, and set them all the challenge of breaking the 24hr team relay burpee World Record.
